Free until 28 July: Voodoo Fetish
Voodoo Fetish is free on Amazon until 28 July, on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.
It's the second novella in my Vodou Trilogy. The first book, Ridden (or go here for the UK version), details Eloise’s experiences in the Caribbean. A car accident near a cemetery in which she's possessed by the lwa and Baron Cimitiėre. Their use of her as a channel for supernatural healing. The discovery that these powers require her to undergo bdsm sex so that her pain and orgasm can channel away another person’s illness. That's the backstory.
Voodoo Fetish is set in London - a world city that's home to members of the vodou diaspora. She’s called upon by the lwa to carry out a healing ceremony for the daughter of a work colleague. Among other things this involves supernatural sex, discussions with crows and a dead witch, sex with a pagan couple she meets who are recruited to her healing project, a relationship with a houngan (male priest) who comes from the slightly different New Orleans tradition of vodou, a bass guitar with interesting properties, and discussion of the Navier-Stokes equations of fluid dynamics.
There will be a third novella in due course, which explains how the various people she’s healed are connected together and what the longer-term project of the lwa was. And, yes, bdsm and sex are involved. Extensively involved.
For now, though, you can download the second novella, Voodoo Fetish, for free. Hope you enjoy it.

Sex Art and Aromatherapy - free 27th May-9th June
Here's a heads-up: my short story Sex, Art and Aromatherapy will be free on iTunes from tomorrow, 27th May, to 9th June.
I can't give you a URL for it because the old way of constructing URLs for iTunes products doesn't seem to work any more. Just search on the title, or my name.
Brief details: Ruby is already experienced in BDSM and fetish, but she’s surprised to meet an older man in an art gallery, of all places, who also seems experienced in that world. He tells her stories about how, in his youth, BDSM was simply one part of a wider spiritual quest. Ruby lets him take her on a journey of enlightenment…
I think the cover used in this post is the right one! It replaced the original cover (which featured a woman's hands bound in red rope) when it first went onto iTunes because the bondage was deemed too racy for iTunes cover guidelines. That said, I think it's a pretty neat cover image.
I'll also just mention that at various points in the past (it's been out for a while), this story's apparently been among the most popular erotic downloads on a range of iTunes country stores.

Free Voodoo Fetish
It's true. My Voodoo Fetish novella is free on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk from today, 8 May, until 12 May 2013 (these links open in new windows).
It's a novella with paranormal, bondage and bdsm themes that follows on from the earlier Ridden. In place of a blurb or plot summary (which you can get from Amazon and its 'look inside' function) I'll just point out that apart from sex, bondage and whips you get post-structuralist philosophy, fluid dynamics equations, a reference to the film Cat People, a discussion of the 1832 Public Cemeteries Act, a small and intimate orgy, a dose of syncretism, a demonic possession and an anvwar mo. And sex and bdsm, did I mention those?
Enjoy. If you get your free copy, please do me a favour - take a minute to review, rate or tag it on Amazon or Goodreads or wherever you please. And if you like it - please remember I have others you might like to buy...

Get Ridden for free!
It's true, you can get Ridden for free, for a limited time. Xcite sorted a free four-day promo on Amazon, 14-18 November. Erotic novella, bondage and BDSM, voodoo and paranormal, more details in previous blog posts.
Get it from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk. And please leave a review on Amazon when you've read it!
While it's Part 1 of a trilogy - though each volume is self-standing and complete in itself - and Part 2 is mostly written while Part 3 is already plotted, I'm still open to suggestions about particular scenes you might like to see in the later volumes...

Ridden, now out
A week or so after my Corporate Slave novel came out, here's the new novella: Ridden, available from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.
It's a vodou-themed paranormal erotic novella with a lot of bdsm, and it draws on a fair amount of factual material as well. Among other things, vodou is a syncretic religion with a diaspora that means you can find practitioners/followers in almost every world city, by no means all of whom are from the original West African/Caribbean/Latin American/New Orleans areas where it emerged or became embedded in the culture. And it involves the practice of followers being possessed - or 'ridden' - by spirits, of in vodou terminology, lwa. Hence the title
Ridden is book 1 of a trilogy. It's complete in its own right, but books 2 and 3, out in the next few months, will extend the story somewhat.
It should appeal to anyone who's into bdsm erotica who likes paranormal themes - or who likes the idea of the 'paranormal' being treated with some degree of seriousness.
Not being a practitioner myself I have not done a travail to encourage anyone to read the book. It'll have to make its own way in the world, on its own merits. I hope you enjoy it.
If you want to read an extract, there's one on my Tumblr blog. And of course the first pages are visible on the Amazon 'look inside' function.
I'll also have some publicity-related news for it next week.

Erotica Romance Ebooks - a note
If you've recently tried to buy any of my books - or indeed any others - from Xcite's 'third-party' website, www.erotica-romance-ebooks.com, you'll have noticed that it's currently down. Erotica Romance Ebooks is the site that sells Xcite's own books and also acts as a shopfront for a bunch of other publishers, including self-publishing authors.
Apparently stuff is happening to get it sorted.
In the meantime you can of course use Xcite's own website, or Amazon, or (where applicable) Smashwords or any of the other places my stuff appears such as AdultEbookShop or BDSM-Books.
I'll let you know when I see Erotica Romance Ebooks up and running again.

Filthy White Dress

Just to follow up on my last post about Nu Fetish (that was a while back - where's the time gone?) you might like to know a story of mine, 'Filthy White Dress', is out now in the Xcite Making Her Pay collection. And it's inspired by Nu Fetish.
Blurb: Chloe doesn’t get the job. What she does get, by way of compensation, is dinner with the mysterious but attractive Dr. Vogel. He’s insistent she should wear a white dress, but it’s what he wants her to do while wearing it that’s kinky and slightly surreal. Their unlikely relationship flowers, though, and Chloe finds herself drawn into his colour-coded world.
There are five stories in the collection: Making Her Pay (Veronica Wilde), Soul of Discretion (Mary Borsellino), Filthy White Dress (Fulani), The Best Handjob in the North (Victoria Blisse) and Mean (Maxim Jakubowski).
The full twenty-story collection Tricks for Kicks, from which these five are taken, should be out in May.

Vampire Skye reviewed, and some other stuff

First, the good news. Xcite published a novella of mine, The Vampire Skye, at the back end of last year and it's now been reviewed by BookAddict at The Romance Reviews under their GBLT topic heading (it's a lesbian story). The key bit is:
'It exceeded my expectations in world building, hot characters and erotic sex scenes. I look forward to reading more from this talented author. I recommend this to Sapphic readers who enjoy a paranormal story dominated by a sexy female vampire.'
The Vampire Skye is available in ebook and other electronic formats from Xcite Books, from the Kindle stores at Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com, in Nook format from Barnes and Noble and probably from other places as well.
And now for the annoying news: if you weren't previously aware of it, PayPal has decided to enforce regulations against its use as a transaction system for certain types of erotica, principally of the nonconsensual and quasi-incest varieties. The Huffington Post has the most concise reporting on this.
OK, so it's not the kind of erotica I write or read, and in principle my novella isn't affected (and nor is any of my other writing): but the regulations are being implemented in a typically hamfisted way and causing all kinds of problems for publishers who don't, actually, publish material that infringes the new guidelines. And why does a payment processor decide it's their business to have a moral stance on what people are buying, anyway? A legal stance I can understand: banks and payment processors have legal obligations to prevent money-laundering, etc. But would I, in my everyday life, continue to do business with any other kind of company that felt it should have a say in my moral welfare? Well, no.
There was, for those who are interested in the wider implications, a similar go-around with credit card companies last year: they threatened to withdraw facilities from companies that 'weren't consistent with their brand image'. I would have thought their image was that card transactions should be as easy as cash, but apparently not. It didn't affect a lot of 'adult services' providers anyway, who have long since bit that particular bullet and use a network of processing agencies that handle 'high risk accounts' - for an additional fee, of course. But publishers had to react, and Pink Flamingo, who publish my Secret Circus novel, ended up removing it from their own website (along with the majority of their other books) and selling via eroticbooknetwork.com, which uses different card payment processors who weren't affected by the shift in US card company policies.
The only new thing about all this is that erotic writing has suddenly come to be seen as part of the 'adult services industry'. Adult services themselves have a long history of difficult and tangled relationships with the financial sector, as a 2004 article from Forbes magazine indicates (there's an earlier 2003 article as well). In the 2004 case a card processing company that specialised in adult services accounts had its agreement terminated by its bank, was taken on by another bank (weirdly, one based in the Mormon homeland of Utah, which raised many eyebrows) and was then taken over by a larger card processor that itself has since been bought out itself by an even larger one. The whole process resulted in payments to hundreds if not thousands of adult services companies being disrupted. Also, here's another 2003 Forbes article about how the whole banking sector blows hot and cold over the adult industry, often with banks soliciting transactions at one time and then shutting up shop when they find their involvement embarrassing. Unsurprisingly, the 2003 article fingers PayPal as a big transactions channel for adult services - and at that time they didn't seem to have any problem with it...
So publishers are now chasing their tails to set up more robust and morality-proof payments systems, and of course small independents and self-publishing authors are for the moment going to be the losers. No doubt in the longer term, new options will emerge. There are already anonymous internet banking companies, virtual currencies, token-based systems and the like and if PayPal and other mainstream companies want to impose their corporate vision in this kind of way, the likelihood is that other structures will come onstream fairly quickly and be used not just because people want to buy erotica but because substantial numbers of people will, on principle, no longer want to offer business to a company that tells them how they can and can't spend their money (though no doubt some people will continue to use them because they agree with their morals!).
And if they can decide erotica isn't something you can buy using their payment mechanisms... is that the thin end of a wedge that will mean they'll start making other restrictions on moral grounds?

Yes, it's been quiet here. I have some other stuff I'm writing that's taken up a lot of time, and I'll no doubt be banging on about it here, in due course.
Meanwhile here's an interview I just did with Xcite, just published on their XciteSexyStories website.

The Vampire Skye - now out
So this is the new novella I mentioned a week or so ago, The Vampire Skye. It came out yesterday, published by Xcite.Blurb: Leah works for the Authority, a secretive Government department dedicated to managing the vampires who live in society and keeping their presence hidden from the human population. Her latest client, Skye, wants to flee the Authority’s restrictions and go off-programme – and if that means feeding from Leah in the process, so be it. As disorder sweeps the city and the ordinary rules of engagement no longer apply, how will Leah deal with all the problems Skye throws her way – not least the fact Skye is her dominant fantasy lover made undead flesh?
I'd been wanting to write another vampire story for a while, particularly since my last one - The Vampire's New Plaything - and the Lust Bites collection, which has one of my stories and one by my partner Velvet Tripp - have been doing rather well.
My take on vampires is perhaps a little sideways, since I've long regarded them as useful symbols/metaphors that can be used in two distinct ways - vampires as those who bleed others, which might make them comparable with capitalist and banking fat cats, and those who are outsiders in society, which might associate them with the socially excluded, those who are marginalised because of their creative vision, political views or other factors. In this novella, the vampires are the latter.
I've also been thinking about a bunch of perhaps slightly stranger stuff. For example there are cases of 'vampire burials' mainly in Eastern Europe but with recent findings in Ireland and elsewhere, in which bodies were mutilated in ways intended to stop them rising from the dead. There's a lot of speculation about stones placed in their mouths - to stop them biting, prevent the ingress of other spirits into the body, give them something to chew on... plenty of theories but we don't actually know.
I spent some time pondering how vampires would fit into contemporary society given our mania for forms of ID, and came up with the idea of a secret government agency that provides them with ID. Why would they do this? Well, maybe as a legacy of their having been involved in government work. That takes me back to more 'regular' science fiction/fantasy themes such as the Brian Lumley 'Necroscope' novels, and the mythos of vampires recruited by both sides in World War II and a German 'Vampire SS', which somewhat links and extends both weirdnesses that did happen in WWII and Hitler's apparent beliefs in the paranormal. How about fangs? Fangs only started to appear in vampire films in the 1950s - so maybe vampires don't automatically have fangs, and only those in secret military units were supplied with them - and when Hammer Horror came up with the idea the government programme of providing fangs was halted. So that would imply that fangs do not a vampire make, and you could have those with and those without fangs.
Then, of course, with the postmodern world of government agencies being hived off into non-departmental bodies or semi-privatised, maybe the body that made all the arrangements for vampires had suffered the same fate, and was facing cuts or closure.
A lot of this is fairly rapidly introduced as the context for the story along with the subtext of riots and disorder, as we saw in the UK recently. But don't let any of that stop you, because the novella is fiercely erotic, very lesbian, and has quite a bit of BDSM play in it.

New things out!
Is it really a month since I've posted?
When I'm silent for a long period it usually means something is going on. In this case, several things. The 'day job' - which is freelance writing for various corporate entities - has been mad. I've had a whole bunch of projects that have run along the lines of 'We don't know what we want, but we want it now!' On the whole it seems that by the time a good idea has been run through half a dozen working groups and committees, everyone loses track of what's going on. So it's been my job to work it out, pull it together and suggest how it can actually happen. Apart from that we're moving house soon so things are disappearing into boxes ready for the move. Pervy stuff has largely been consigned to our lock-up for the time being (yes, that means the dungeon furniture).
And various bits of fiction have been published.
So... the fiction.
I announced a month or so ago I had a novella out, Addicted to Rope, available from Xcite and Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk (and a few other places).
Since then, Sizzling Hot Books reviewed it. The reviewer says: It sucked me in quickly and I wasn’t ready to let go at the end. Fulani is very good at giving Ruth and Leo a lot of depth in a short amount of time. The transformation that overcomes Ruth is quick, but detailed. You can get a good feel for how her mind is working as she accepts and challenges what Leo presents to her. Addicted to Rope is hot. The pages sizzle with anticipation, fantasy, and intimacy. I would recommend Addicted to Rope to anyone who likes reading a lot of the mindset of characters exploring being submissive and anyone who likes the psychological development of a character in their erotica. The whole review here.

I also had a story out in Lucy Felthouse's edited collection, Seducing the Myth. 'Andi in Chains', is a reworking of the Andromeda myth. The book's available on download from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Xcite's third-party Erotica and Romance Ebooks site and elsewhere.
The collection's had several stunningly good reviews. So far as my own story goes, NightOwl Reviews, who says: Andi in Chains by Fulani - Re-imagining of Perseus and Andromeda's meeting was certainly different! Andromeda--better known as Andi--was into bondage and kink, Perseus was a tough son of a gun mercenary and well virgin sacrifice took on a different twist. This story amused me and was possibly my favorite.
And Mitnik at Erotic Whispers says: Andi in Chains by Fulani was a tale of bondage and kink and certainly hit the mark with its very unique take on the meeting of Perseus and Andromeda. Full of fire and passion that is sure to get your imagination sparking and ready for the rest of this erotic ensemble.
JBP Reviews doesn't specifically mention my story but says of the collection as a whole that it's: filled with erotic intent with tons of mystical creatures this book is a great read! I found myself reading each story in earnest and wanting more and more.
Then, yesterday, I got a print copy of Hurts So Good in the mail. This is an edited collection of bdsm-based erotica edited by Alison Tyler and published by Cleis Press. Presumably it's also available through all the usual Amazon, Kindle and other channels as well - but time's tight and I'm sure you can use Google as well as I can.
The last story in the collection is my 'The Uniform and the Rope', which features Japanese bondage and some rather hot scenes, but along the way also manages to point out that much of what we in the US and Europe consider 'Japanese' in bondage terms has much less specifically Japanese history than we might think. Some of it was developed in the US, and some of what we consider Japanese now was actually picked up by practitioners in Japan when the work of a certain John Willie became available there. More information on this comes from the Bondage Project and DS-Arts.
I might also point out the first story in Hurts So Good is 'The Sound of One Hand Clapping' by Nikki Maginnis, to my mind one of the newest and freshest erotica writers on the scene today.
And finally... My latest novella, a mashup of lesbian vampire bdsm with a (fairly) unique take, I think, on vampirism and its implications, went to the publisher earlier today. Given the amount of other work I've been doing it mainly got written in short bursts at around three in the morning, but I think it's quite entertaining. I enjoyed writing it, anyway...

Addicted to Rope - now out
This is the cover for Addicted to Rope - written last month and just published as a novella by Xcite. As the title suggests there's a fair bit of bondage involved in the plot, including suspension. Oh, and some use of Magic Wands. And pegs. And other implements. But mainly it's about bondage.
Opening lines:
It felt weird. Exotic. Slightly dangerous. It felt like a challenge. It put a tight knot of anticipation in the pit of Ruth’s stomach, because the little demon inside her that automatically rose to a challenge was bouncing around in there.
Challenges were good, though. They made her feel real, alive, fulfilled.
Xcite gave me a publication date of 15th September but it's already showing on the Fulani section of the Xcite website (this links to the main site, just use the 'search' facility on the page to pull up all my titles).

Xcite's new website
If you’ve already bought stuff from Xcite Books you’ve probably heard about this anyway – but from 1st March, Xcite is migrating its web activity from all its domains - UK, US, Australia etc. - to a new website, www.erotica-romance-ebooks.com.
Presumably the old links will be redirected to the new URL but I hope to have all the links on here updated by Tuesday when the new site goes live.
The new Xcite site is significant because it will be a one-stop shop for romantic and erotic ebooks and audio formats not just from Xcite, but also from other publishers and authors around the world. Their press release says: ‘It offers a unique, genre specific, shopping experience for romance and erotica readers because they can discover new authors and publishing companies alongside their established favourites.’
In other words it will be a sales point not just for Xcite’s own publications (including of course many of my own stories and some of Velvet Tripp's) but for other erotic/romance publishers as well. In addition individual authors will be able to upload their works to it and set their own sales price provided they have a valid ISBN.
That website again: http://www.erotica-romance-ebooks.com.

Congratulations, Velvet

The more observant among you will have noticed that I live with Velvet, who is an author of erotica in her own right. Her latest story ‘Tropical Paradise’ is the first piece in the just-published Xcite collection Tropical Paradise: A collection of five erotic stories.
The collection was originally themed as a 'sex at work' collection, and still is, because Velvet's story concerns Ellie, who works in the tropical house of the zoo and her lover Sam who looks after the big cats. They meet after work for a night of lust among the exotic flora and fauna.
The contents are: Tropical Paradise by Velvet Tripp / Just Like Your Father by Sommer Marsden / The Salon Sensual by J Troy Seate/ Typing Pool by Honey Leigh / The Deepest Dig by Sylvia Lowry.
Priced at £2.99 for the e-book, part of Xcite’s normal ’3 for 2′ offer, and apparently with a print edition coming soon.
We were both amused, incidentally, by the communications from Xcite. As the collection was designed on a 'sex at work' theme, Velvet ended up with a bunch of emails from the publisher with subject lines like 'Contract for Sex at Work' and 'Payment for Sex at Work'. Which might in itself lead her - or me, or maybe both of us! - to write something in the future about what such a contract might look like.

Happy New Year to everyone (and some self-congratulation!)
This is a self-congratulatory post and I'm not going to apologise for it! I've been doing some end-of-year sorting and filing, as a result of which I've just noticed that in the course of 2010 I've published, in terms of erotica -
- 14 short stories in magazines/collections/anthologies: 6 with Xcite, 6 in Erotic Review, 1 in Oysters & Chocolate, 1 in Lucrezia magazine
- 3 short stories published individually, all with Xcite
- 3 stories on other people's blogs (Frequently Felt)
- My first full-length erotic novel (with Pink Flamingo)
- a bunch of stories out on my new 'other' blog which I've set up jointly with Velvet Tripp, deliciouslydeviant.wordpress.com
That's in addition to several short science fiction and horror stories published under my real name.
Stuff in progress at the moment includes a single-author erotic story collection and a second novel, with a second story collection and a third novel being planned... I haven't set myself any New Year resolutions about getting things finished, but hopefully most if not all of that stuff will appear in the course of 2011.
Meanwhile, congratulations also to the authors whose blogs appear in the links on the right of this page, who've all put out excellent stuff this year, sometimes in the face of quite serious difficulties. And a happy New Year to everyone.

Vampire's New Plaything
It's been one of those weeks in which things have happened that, from a writer's point of view, are so improbable that if you made them up you'd think 'I couldn't possibly use that, it's too off-the-wall'. Since I know they have happened, though, I may well use them in a story at a later date. Because I'm like that. They probably won't be erotica, but you never know...
Meanwhile my story 'The Vampire's New Plaything' is out as an e-book, pdf or Kindle (epub) format, on Xcite (or, for the North American market, Xcite.com). A tad under 6000 words for 99p or $1.49 and there's even a special 3 for the price of 2 offer running at the moment. Vampire theme (obviously) and a nice cosy read for the long nights running up to Halloween, or Samhain, or however else you might like to style the end of October.

Kindled!
The people at Xcite have been busy behind the scenes. Not only have they revamped the website to give more North American coverage, they've also done a deal with Amazon to put their publications - including, of course, my stories and the collections I've contributed to - on Kindle. Previously they'd only been available in PDF format, so this means they're more widely accessible.

Xcite best erotic book brand!
I've just had an email to announce that Xcite Books won Best Erotic Book Brand at the ETO awards earlier this week in Birmingham, UK.
ETO - English Touring Opera, Efforts to Oucomes, European Telework Online... Yes, but in this case, nope. Erotic Trade Only bills itself as the adult industry's trade magazine, runs a trade show and seems to participate in or have a presence at a bunch of other shows in the US and Europe. The ETO Show presents something like 24 annual 'best in show' prizes in different categories.
I'm pleased, because as you will know I write for Xcite.

Spirit Lovers, one more time!
Rude Words has just published another review of the Xcite Spirit Lovers collection, published a few weeks ago. I quote:
'Spirit Lovers is a collection of five erotic short stories based around the supernatural. The first, The Incubus Candle by Fulani is my favourite. Without giving two much away, Lauren inadvertently summons a couple of incubi, who are there to see to her every sexual need. And they certainly do that… I found this the most erotic of the stories due to the whole two-men-one-woman thing, and because the writing was so sensual. A great start to the anthology...'
That was a cheery thing to discover on an otherwise dull weekend!

Rude-words review!
I've just noticed Xcite submit their books to Rude-words.com, an erotic book review website.
The Xcite 'Spirit Lovers' collection has my story 'Incubus Candle', of which the review says
'The Incubus Candle is a brilliant romp through every girl’s fantasy, erotic and naughty, and incredibly sexy and is a fabulous beginning to a brilliant book, which just goes from strength to strength'.
That's just made my day! I'm so pleased I found this... the original post can be found here.
